Borja Jimenez bullfights 6 bulls alone

The Bilbao Bullfighting Club is one of the most prestigious of its kind. Founded in 1928 by a group of passionate Bilbao locals, it remains active and vibrant to this day, proudly upholding the dignity and tradition that matches the refined tastes of “El Botxo.”

In addition to hosting discussions, conferences, and trips, one of its most renowned and enduring events is its traditional bullfighting festival, an event that enjoys almost as much prestige as the institution itself.

In 2024, the festival will celebrate its 67th edition, and for the occasion, an unprecedented lineup has been arranged. For the first time, the festival will feature a single matador. The event will take place on Sunday, October 13th, and the star of the show will be Borja Jiménez, undoubtedly one of the top toreros of the season, who will take on six bulls from the Zalduendo ranch in a solo performance.

Following an impressive career as a novice, which saw him even open the Puerta del Príncipe in Seville and receive an exceptional alternative at La Maestranza from none other than the maestro Espartaco, Borja Jiménez has spent several years preparing himself both physically and mentally, ready to seize any opportunity that came his way.

Under the guidance of Julián Guerra, the Espartinas-born torero began to make a name for himself last year, culminating in the 2023 Autumn Fair, where after an emotional afternoon, he opened the Puerta Grande of Las Ventas by cutting three ears from a demanding but rewarding batch of Victorino bulls.

This triumph put him in an excellent position for 2024, where Borja has rightfully earned his place in the “grand slam” fairs and continued to make his mark as an essential presence in other key events.

His achievements in the first half of the season include one ear at Fallas, two at the Feria de Abril, and three at San Isidro, where he was recognised as the fair’s standout performer and the author of the best faena. Pamplona also saw him triumph during San Fermín, cutting two ears from a bull that gave him a serious goring, yet this didn’t prevent him from continuing his brilliant streak, which extended to Aste Nagusia, where he claimed three ears from a Fuente Ymbro batch.

Borja Jiménez is the only matador to have scored so decisively in all the major fairs of the circuit, meaning, by any measure, he is the standout torero of the season, even before its conclusion.

For this reason, his decision to close the year in Bilbao by taking on six bulls holds even more significance. “Dream” is the slogan of the event’s promotional poster—something the young Sevillian matador continues to do, both asleep and awake, in his pursuit of a place among the greats. Bilbao will once again bear witness to the strength of his case. Don’t be the one to miss out on this spectacle at Vista Alegre.
